Garden State Cat Club’s 78th Annual Cat Expo and Show 2014

Whether you're a cat lover or simply looking for the "purr-fect" family outing, mark your calendars for the 78th Annual Cat Expo/Show. Known as America's Biggest Cat Expo/Show, the fundraiser draws more than 3,000 attendees and features cat shows, an agility competition, seminars and showcases such as "How to Select a Pet Sitter" and "Feline Grooming," pet CPR demos, Cats in Cars (adorable kitties driving their own little vehicles around the showhall), the always-popular Adopt-A-CAT program, a cat-product tradeshow with a huge selection of cat trees, toys, and gifts, and the International Ragdoll Congress, an event honoring the blue-eyed breed that is only held in the US every four years. Proceeds from the show will benefit New Jersey animal shelters, disaster relief efforts and feline health studies. To date, the Garden State Cat Club has donated over $64,500 for disaster relief and area shelters. more

The 7th Annual Holiday Express Sunset Benefit Clambake sponsored by Shore Point Distributing Company, will be held Sunday, September 14th from 4-8 p.m., on the beach at McLoone's Pier House in Long Branch. The cost is $225 per guest and includes a premium open bar and a lavish buffet including lobster, filet and raw bar. Dress is casual and the Holiday Express Band will provide entertainment. There will be a silent auction with items donated by many generous individuals and companies, including tickets to area sporting events, designer clothing and jewelry, and dinner packages at the shore's finest restaurants. Founded in 1993 by Little Silver resident Tim McLoone, Holiday Express delivers music, food, gifts and financial support and friendship to those with the greatest need for the gift of human kindness during the Holiday season and throughout the year. The organization is comprised of 1,500 volunteers including more than 100 professional musicians.

American Repertory Ballet's "Nutcracker"

ARB's Nutcracker has been a holiday tradition since 1964. The current production (2010-present) is directed by Artistic Director Douglas Martin. It features the original Party and Dream Battle Scenes from company founder Audrée Estey's production, with Snow Scene and Land of Sweets choreography by Douglas Martin. The production features spectacular sets by Carl Sprague and costumes by Gina Ricca. ARB's professional dancers are joined by students from Princeton Ballet School to tell the story of a young girl and how a mysterious gift brings about enchanted dreams and fantastical scenes. Whether it's your first time, an annual tradition, or a once-in-a-lifetime experience, ARB's Nutcracker is a perfect holiday treat for your entire family to be transported and inspired.Nutcracker performances at State Theatre will feature live music, which will be performed by an orchestra under the direction of Maestro Michael Pratt. more
