Where to Go Apple Picking in NJ This Fall

Family-friendly farms and orchards offering you-pick apples—plus hayrides, corn mazes, cider donuts and more.

Alstede Farms • Chester Township

Boasting over 50 apple varieties, Alstede Farms provides an apple-ripening schedule—and an updated list of all other available produce—so that pickers can plan their visits accordingly. Purchase tickets online before arriving to the farm. Admission includes container options for produce—plus scenic hay rides, a corn maze, a sunflower trail and more. After you’ve worked up an appetite, visit the Doughnut Haus or ice cream stand for a sweet treat.

Battleview Orchards Freehold

Picking locations at this family- owned and -operated farm are cash only. Always call before you go, as availability depends on weather and supply. Pumpkins are available for picking, too. Hayrides happen on fall weekends. Stop by the country store for donuts, cider, pies, produce, fruit baskets and gifts.

Demarest Farms Hillsdale

Online reservations are required to partake in Demarest’s pick-your-own program (apples as well as pumpkins). Admission includes parking, access to a petting zoo and playground, and hayrides on Saturdays and Sundays in the fall. The farm store sells baked goods, seasonal decorations and flowers.

Duffield’s Farm Market • Sewell

Choose from online ticket packages with various combinations of apple picking, pumpkin picking and hayrides. Stop by the bakery in the morning to see how the fresh donuts are made. For a more substantial meal later on, grab a bite at the deli.

Hill Creek Farms  Mullica Hill

While walk-ins to the bountiful you-pick orchards are permitted, pre-purchasing admission online is strongly recommended. Admission and hayrides are free on fall Fridays; produce is priced by the pound. Kids’ attractions available for purchase include barrel-train rides, gem mining, a moon bounce and a playground. Weekends feature live music and free face painting. Major bonus: Parents can unwind at the wine garden.

Terhune Orchards  Princeton

Terhune’s dwarf trees are especially suited for young pickers. You-pick apples are priced by bag, available for purchase at check-in. The orchard is cashless but accepts cards, Apple Pay and Venmo. And don’t miss family weekends at the main farm around the corner, where you can pick and paint pumpkins, visit animals, explore corn mazes, dig into barbecue and apple-sider slushies and so much more.
