Due 360 May Be Worth a Visit

The relatively new restaurant still has kinks to work out, but this Summit spot has promise.

We happened to stumble into Due 360 in Summit for dinner, about a week after they opened in early March. Although the restaurant had kinks to iron out, it  holds promise, and if you are in the area, it may be worth trying.

DUE 360

Since Argentine/Italian tapas are featured, we started with crispy crusted oysters; crispy squid, meatballs in a spicy sauce; and empanadas. The tender squid was a favorite at our table, but we felt the portions were small for the price. Ditto for the entrees. For example, the empanadas, which looked about two inches long, were $5 each and once halved, were just a bite for each person. My entrée of locally grown, organic, roasted vegetables, although artistically presented, was $18 and there was very little to eat. Millet accompanied this dish and tasted like undercooked rice.

Italian dishes such as linguine and clams, homemade lemon gnocchi, and tagliatelle ragu may be a better bet as chef/owner Mondo Z previously owned Bella Nottes Alta Cucina, an Italian restaurant in Little Falls. The executive chef is Jimmy Alvarado, who previously was executive sous chef at the Harbor View Hotel in Maratha’s Vineyard and chef de cuisine at MAE Restaurant in Jersey City.

From the Platos Grande section of the menu, we opted for Argentinian hanger steak, which was well flavored and cooked medium rare as ordered. Pork shank ciambotta with roasted fingerlings, onions, Italian pepper and shaved carrots was tender. Desserts were the best part of our meal. Tiramisu was presented in a glass jar and gobbled up; we could have ordered a second one. Rice pudding in a crème brulee dish was creamy, and flan was sweet and silky with a delicious caramel syrup coating. Duo 360 is open for lunch and dinner daily.
