TURTLE & THE WOLF, MONTCLAIR
Named for the clan symbols of the Lenape Indians who lived in the area, Turtle + The Wolf has opened at 622 Valley Road, Upper Montclair (973-783-9800); BYO. Parties of eight can reserve the chef’s table in the kitchen. A set menu of whole-roasted suckling pig ($85); buttermilk fried chicken ($50) or a tasting menu ($125) is offered with a seasonal salad followed by the main course with accouterment, side dishes, and dessert.
CRANETOWN, MONTCLAIR
Cranetown, progressive Chinese food, has opened at 44 S Park Street, Montclair (973-337-8722); BYO. Menu items include spicy cold tofu with century-old egg; soy-glazed Cornish hen; soy-sauce simmered pork belly, garlic, duck egg and green-pea fried rice; and stir-fried snow pea leaves with garlic. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 5 PM. Parking validated at the garage on Crescent.

Unusual options include cheddar & bacon, pralines & cream, gingered caramel, peanut butter cup, and salt & vinegar. Seasonal flavors like pumpkin spice (for Thanksgiving), peppermint bark (for the holidays), and peppermint poppy (for St. Patrick’s day) will also be available.

Toast, which also has a restaurant in Montclair has opened at 45 Monmouth Street, Red Bank (732-224-1234); BYO. Open daily from 7:30 AM to 3 PM.
