Oct. 9–11: The third annual New Jersey Independent South Asian Cinefest, held at Rutgers University, screens more than 30 independent films—such as Barah Aana, Chaturanga, and Kamli, My Daughter—made by South Asian filmmakers from all over the world. Run solely by volunteers, the festival opens with a gala Oct 9 spotlighting films from Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. The evening includes a discussion on the state of cinema in those war-stricken countries and Q&As with filmmakers. Call for times and ticket information.
