May 8–10: Get into the groove with the acclaimed Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, which stops at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center as part of its 50th anniversary nationwide tour.
The troupe is known for its energetic fusion of African-American movement and modern American dance. The dancers will be accompanied by guest a capella ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock. Fri–Sat, 8 pm; Sun, 3 pm; $23–$92. 1 Center St, Newark (866-466-5722; njpac.org).
