Feb 5, 7, and 12: Opera New Jersey and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra present Carmen, Bizet’s final and most beloved opera, at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton on Feb 5 (3 pm; $25–$125. 91 University Pl, Princeton. 609-258-2787; mccarter.org); and the State Theatre in New Brunswick on Feb 7 (8 pm; $25–$109. 15 Livingston Ave, New Brunswick. 732-246-7469; statetheatrenj.org); and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark on Feb 12 (7:30 pm; $25–$109. 1 Center St, Newark. 888-466-5722; njpac.org); Mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves (above) stars in the signature role, while tenor Richard Leech takes the stage as Don Jose and Joseph Rescigno conducts the French production (800-255-3476; njsymphony.org).

Note: The role of Carmen will now be played by mezzo-soprano Kirstin Chávez. Denyce Graves withdrew from the production due to medical reasons.
