Sept 4–Nov 8: The New Jersey Film Festival at Rutgers University returns this fall to showcase even more original films by talented filmmakers. Presented by the Rutgers Film Co-op/New Jersey Media Arts Center and the Rutgers University Program in Cinema Studies, the festival screens more than 50 films, including a few with a Jersey angle.
Don’t miss the premieres of The Last Bastions of Rock (Sept 4), a documentary about various rock venues in the state, A Place Out of Time (Sept 20) about the Bordentown School (above) and its role in African-American education, and The Cartel (Sept 20), a documentary about education and spending in New Jersey. 7 pm; $8–$10. 72 Lipman Dr, Douglass Campus, New Brunswick (732-932-8482; njfilmfest.com).
