Union Lake, Millville
This nearly 900-acre lake in Millville, South Jersey’s largest freshwater lake, teems with largemouth, smallmouth, and striped bass, black crappie, catfish, and yellow perch (856-825-7000).

Atlantic Ocean & Delaware Bay
Hundreds of charter boats are available for day and night fishing. The Cape May fleet also sets sail for Delaware Bay (time4fishing.com/newjersey).

Round Valley & Spruce Run reservoirs
Set in the verdant hills of Hunterdon County, the state’s largest and third largest reservoirs, respectively, contain 29 species of fish

Delaware River
Toss a line anywhere along this 410-mile river whose lower half doubles as New Jersey’s western border. The Delaware Water Gap combines great fishing with stunning scenery (delawareriver.net).

Lake Hopatcong
Straddling Morris and Sussex counties, New Jersey’s largest manmade lake (2,685 acres) was created as part of the Morris Canal (973-398-7010).
