Mercer County launches an outdoor concert venue this month with plans for a diverse lineup of local and marquee attractions. Performances will take place on a new 2,200-square-foot, state-of-the-art covered stage at the Mercer County Park Festival Grounds in West Windsor.
“Nothing’s off the table,” says Kevin Bannon, executive director of the park commission. “From opera to local high school bands, anything family-oriented—any genre will be considered.”
The new venue kicks off June 6 with Piano Men, an Elton John and Billy Joel tribute show featuring Broadway actors Craig A. Meyer and Donnie Kehr dueling on pianos. The Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies arrives on July 2, exactly one month after the release of their 12th studio album, Silverball. The Ladies bring along special guests Violent Femmes and Colin Hay (former lead singer of Men at Work) for their Last Summer on Earth tour.
Up to 700 reserved seats, plus space for 7,000 on the lawn, will be available for major events. Tickets will be sold through various outlets including aeglive.com and comcasttix.com.
The 2,000-acre county park was one of the venues for the 2014 National Special Olympics and regularly hosts the Trenton Kennel Club Dog Show, food-truck and family festivals, and a free summer concert series.
