Our readers have spoken and there can be no further doubt: Ocean City has earned the title of Best Beach in New Jersey Monthly’s Shore Town Showdown, presented by PalaCasino.com.

On its way to victory, Ocean City defeated 39 other beach towns, garnering 31.4 percent of the vote in the final round. The Wildwoods secured second place with 19.3 percent of the vote, and Cape May took third with 16.2 percent.

Ocean City, a 137-year-old family-friendly enclave, has been a frontrunner of this competition since the beginning. It’s easy to understand why. Ocean City’s charm comes from its embrace of all things corny. While other beach destinations have wrestled with their identities over the years, 10-square-mile Ocean City has never wavered in its devotion to  wholesome fun. “America’s Greatest Family Resort” hosts an array of wacky competitions and shows, such as the annual freckle contest, the Miss Crustacean Beauty Pageant & Hermit Crab Race, the french fry sculpting contest and more.

Congratulations to Ocean City, and thanks for participating in the Shore Town Showdown!
