Later, employees can take advantage of mentoring programs that help them grow professionally. “By having a network that you can reach out to, it’s more than likely there’s someone in that network who has experienced something similar,” says Carole Lakin, multicultural relations manager, who has been with Enterprise for almost eleven years.

There is also advanced training and formal mentoring for managers. “You’re not just expected to run this business, but to run it so that your employees feel good about where they’re working,” says Dylan Schweitzer, group recruiting manager and a fourteen-year employee.

Company perks can include flextime scheduling, optional condensed work weeks, and the Phase-Back Program for employees reentering the workplace after maternity or adoption leave. Under the program, full-timers are eligible to work a reduced schedule at full pay during their first four weeks back, returning to regular work hours in the fifth week.

Lakin says another aspect of Enterprise’s success is the company’s commitment to workplace and community diversity. “Ensuring that our highest levels of management understand the role that diversity plays is truly a business imperative,” she says.

Since the company promotes almost solely from within—nearly 100 percent of current senior management started as trainees—management-trainee positions are prized. The company is seeking management trainees at locations throughout the state.
