Eat Healthy

Was eating better and becoming more fit part of your personal improvement plan for this year? The truth is that most people who set this goal for themselves don’t achieve it by year’s end, and many have already given up. But there is a solution: Don’t diet. Change your lifestyle. Create good health by the choices you make.

Cook as many meals as possible at home. This lets you control the amount of fat, sodium, and sugar in your meals. You’ll find the ingredients of a healthful meal right in the supermarket. The key is to select foods that are as close to their natural state as possible; choose brown rice instead of white, fresh peaches instead of canned, natural peanut butter instead of processed.

Eat more fruits and vegetables. These are excellent sources of important vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Fruit is one of the most versatile foods, serving as a snack or dessert or adding interest to an entrée or a salad.

Exercise regularly. Aside from its aesthetic benefits, exercise reduces stress, lowers the risk of heart disease, increases your agility, and improves your sense of well-being. Choose an activity you like and stick with it. Start slowly and build up gradually; low-intensity aerobic exercise—swimming, brisk walking, bicycling, even housecleaning, gardening, or dancing—should be the basis of your exercise program. As your energy improves, add simple muscle-conditioning exercises.

Top 10 Health Tips
1. Eat breakfast.
2. Stock your refrigerator and pantry with healthful foods.
3. Plan smaller main meals.
4. Limit portions.
5. Eat only when you’re hungry.
6. Don’t focus on your weight. Muscle weighs more than fat but takes up less volume.
7. Deprivation leads to overindulgence. Occasionally treat yourself to small portions of higher-calorie foods.
8. If you have a setback, move on. Don’t expect to change your lifestyle overnight.
9. Exercise at least 30 minutes most days of the week.
10. Visualize success. See yourself healthy and content with your appearance.
