New Jersey’s Finest

A bevy of buff cops grace an arresting new calendar.

When New Jersey Cops publisher Richard Webber placed an ad in his monthly magazine asking the state’s most strapping police officers to pose for a fourteen-month “hot cops” calendar, he says, “I got prank phone calls. People would make fun and say, ‘This is like Chippendales.’” But soon, he says, “police chiefs were calling me, insisting that their towns be represented.”

From more than 50 applications submitted from around the state, Webber chose 13 shirtless studs to grace one month each of “Calendar Cops,” which starts with this month. A group photo (above) on the last page includes the lone female officer, Ventnor’s Kelli McHugh, who’s dressed in a sports bra.

Webber spearheaded the project, believed to be the nation’s first such calendar, in hopes of changing the public’s perception of the men and women in blue. “It’s ironic that people are often scared when they see a cop,” Webber says. “They think he is going to give them a ticket and such. But these are the people that protect us, and I wanted to show that human side.”

The calendar can be purchased for $12.99 at www.calendarcops.com, or by calling 973-569-7720. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics of New Jersey and New Jersey law enforcement survivor funds.
