A little healthy competition never hurt anyone—unless you are competing against your mom. But operating separate swimwear companies has only strengthened the relationship between New Jerseyans Jeanette and Moshe Laniado.
“It has given us more of an opportunity to connect,” says Jeanette, an Ocean Township resident. It helps that the two companies target different audiences. Jeanette’s business, Swimsuit Station, is a brick-and-mortar retail outlet in Ocean Township (3501 Rose Avenue), while Moshe’s, swimsuitsforall.com, is a virtual one, specializing in swimwear for full-figured women. “If a customer wants to touch and feel the garment, I send them to my mom’s store,” says Moshe, who operates out of an office in West Long Branch.
“And if a woman goes to her store looking for a broader selection or a hard-to-find size, she’ll send them to mine.”
A graduate of New York University’s Stern Business School, Moshe launched his site in 2005 after identifying a demand for full-figured swimwear while selling his mother’s leftover inventory on eBay. “The demand was screaming at me,” exclaims the 26-year-old, who offers sizes 8 to 34W. Both pride themselves on offering swimsuits for all ages, genders, shapes, and sizes. Jeanette says she even carries maternity and mastectomy suits, and chlorine-proof styles for those who do water aerobics.

Feeling ripped off
My wife ordered a swimsuit from Swimsuitsforall.com on a thursday evening. Realizing the "overnight" shipping ($28.95 charge) meant the swimsuit would be shipped on Friday and arrive overnight on Saturday in Ocala, she completed her online order anyway (a total of $100.05). It’s now Saturday and, after a few phone calls between my wife and Swimsuits For All and Fedex, this is the situation... Swimsuits For All shipped the swimsuit (as anticipated) on Friday but did not request a Saturday delivery. The swimsuit is located at Fedex in Ocala, FL, but cannot be shipped because SFA did not request the Saturday delivery - they can’t even break open the container and let my wife come pick it up as there are thousands of items in the container scheduled for Monday delivery. SFA don’t want to know and say they don’t deliver on the weekends - only during normal business days. Guess what, we live on a University of Florida horse farm and we have Fedex shipments 7 days a week especially now during breeding season. Apparently SFA charge customers for overnight shipment and don’t seem to understand that Fedex delivers 7 days a week - THAT’S THEIR JOB AND THEY’RE GOOD AT IT IF YOU LET THEM DO IT. On requesting a credit on the overnight delivery charge (I’m prepared to pay for Ground), I was told that I could just refuse the delivery when the truck turns up and it will automatically be shipped back to SFA. No confirmation of cancellation of order, credit card payment or anything. Serves my wife right, she should have gone downtown in Ocala and spent her money locally. We have lived around the world and all the different cultural experiences have obviously made us too trustworthy - you get stung the most closer to home.
