Palace of Asia
2389 Route 70 West, Cherry Hill
Hours: Daily, 11:30 am–10:30 pm
Style: White tablecloth; elegant. Full bar.
Don’t Miss: Try the chicken tikka appetizer for tenderness and marinated spices ($7.95). For dinner, the tandoori fish tikka is a sizable portion of mahi-mahi ($16.95), or go with the tandoori standard, the Seekh kabob, lamb on the skewer ($13.95). The lamb rogan josh, with chopped tomatoes in a creamy sauce ($15.95), is also a good pick. All the breads are fresh and plentiful, but the garlic naan, puffy and spicy, may be the best ($2.75).
Heads Up: This is a night-out kind of place—with comfortable seating and subtle music—that is also a good bet for take-out, which often comes with a little surprise appetizer thrown in.
The Scoop: Set on the Cooper River, this is a picturesque spot on one of the most prestigious waterways for rowing in the world. (If you’re lucky, you’ll be there while a national collegiate race or an Olympic trial is under way.) The glassed-in back dining room belies its location in a motel. The gracious staff is in no rush to get you out. Sip your wine and enjoy the river view.
