Style: Taverna / Mediterranean market
Don’t Miss: Greek salad with grilled chicken ($11.75) makes a good-sized meal. Marinated, grilled chicken tenders are served over freshly chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, olives and feta (no lettuce), with grilled pita wedges on the side. The spanakopita ($8.25) is also quite good. The flaky filo is filled with a smooth mixture of spinach and feta, and comes with a side salad. The tasty classic gyro ($7.50) is served in a pita cone, with thin strips of spicy lamb, crisp lettuce, tomato and onion with a tzatziki sauce. Daily specials come in larger portions. For dessert, try a strong Greek coffee and a nutty baklava square ($5.50) that’s just sweet enough.
Heads Up: In mid-June, Flemington welcomed this delightful eatery, just off Route 202 in the Reading Ridge shopping plaza. It’s had a steady stream of customers ever since. The staff is friendly and helpful. The comfortable seating area is separated from the market and take-out section by trellises. Delivery available.
The Scoop: Village Gyro is more than a restaurant; half the space is a well-stocked Mediterranean market. The timing and location of Village Gyro’s opening was well planned, with a new Greek Orthodox church due to open nearby later this year.
