2010 Readers' and Critics' Restaurant Poll

The results of our 27th Annual Readers’ Choice Restaurant Poll were tabulated by PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Florham Park.

Do you like this story?

The winning restaurant in each region received the most votes in its category—in some cases there were ties; in some categories we also list a chain winner. We have also added our critics’ picks (). All readers who submitted a ballot became eligible to win dinner for two in our random drawing. This year’s winner is Melanie Naef of Flanders. She will receive a gift certificate to Lorena’s in Maplewood, the Best of the Best poll winner in Naef’s region, North.

big omission

To be honest -- I’ve never patronized any of the ice cream establishments listed, but I know Torico’s in Jersey City belongs on that list. Ice cream soft and hard, sherbet and sorbet (they’re two different foods,) all of Torico’s frozen deliciousness is HOMEMADE. There are about 40 flavors including fruits of which I’d never, ever heard.

Most importantly -- the quality of the ice cream is as high as you can go. And the service is always friendly. There’s even a walk-up window for dog-walkers in it’s very walkable, downtown neighborhood.

I’m a big fan of Equus Restaurant in Bernardsville, NJ. I was surprised not to see them listed.

Steak House

The winner for central jersey should have definitely been Colts Neck Inn. They recently won Best Steak 2010 at Jersey Shore & they deserve it. Their steaks are amazing & always consistent. If anyone is in the area you should definitely check it out.

Why are the same terrible restaurants listed here every year? Just like NJ to go with who ever is stuffing envelopes.

2 Places left off the list

Taka - Japanese, in Asbury Park
Bistro Ole - Asbury Park

No De Lorenzo’s Pizza? Are you kidding me? How about white house subs in AC? No Mastoris in the diner section. You must be kidding me- you poeple are garbage- something tells me there’s some typical NJ pay offs going on the get on this list. Some other omissions- Angelo’s Fairmont Tavern- AC, Joe Italiano’s Maplewood Inn. Again- you people are garbage.

Missing Jersey Gems...

There are a few places in Chester that should have made your list: The Publick House Tavern & Inn, Taylor’s Ice Cream (lovely little old fashioned shoppe) & Benito’s Trattoria - great Italian food & atmosphere.

Restaurant L

One restaurant that should have been in at least 2 catagories is Restaurant L in Allendale. The L Burger is incredible, "best burger" in Bergen County. "Best Bar Scene" what a great crowd of interesting people.

TheGalaxyDiner Rahway

In Mays issue of NJ Monthly page 128 the favorite diner listed is The Galaxy in Rahway.

Sorry to say I visited there last week & the diner itself was dirty, the Chicken very dry, vegetables water logged & the rice very hard & undercooked.

Many years ago it was a great diner.

Sorry !!

Restaurants - Readers & Critics

The audience polled and critiques must be from Central Jersey as there are few if any of the great reastaurants from NNJ or SNJ on here. Cape May alone has a plethora of fantastic restaurants and in NNJ The Saddle River Inn not being on the list is inexusable. The bias is evident.
