Ryland Redux

In partnership with four investors who own hotels overseas, chef Craig Shelton says the Ryland Inn, dormant since a water main break last February, will reopen this spring. The 10 buildings on 10 acres in Whitehouse will be refurbished, he says, and a 30-room inn will be created along with a bakery and other amenities. “I did my best for a long time,” he says, “but the intensity of code compliance, marketing, development, and design is just too much for any one human being to do and still have something to give on the plate.” In a separate venture, Shelton has launched chefscoffee.com to sell his custom, high-end blended coffees.—Eric Levin
