From the outside, Belmora Spa appears quaint and simple. Housed in a freestanding cottage at the edge of a low-key strip mall on a busy thoroughfare in Basking Ridge, the unpretentious dwelling belies the luxury pampering that stirs inside. The jewel-box spa, opened in 2002 by Romanian immigrant Claudia Georgescu, offers top-notch skin care, body treatments, proprietary products and a level of personal service intended to spoil its clients. It’s not unusual to find tempting noshes in the waiting area or for Georgescu to peek in on your treatment.

“Healthy skin is a part of self-esteem,” Georgescu says. Her three aestheticians expertly address skin issues such as premature aging, fine lines, sun damage, acne and loss of radiance. Belmora’s therapies include lymphatic and energetic drainage using light therapy, microdermabrasion and natural-enzyme peels.

“My mother and grandmother taught me the importance of taking care of myself,” says Georgescu. “They also taught me how to build on my passion for skin-care remedies and how to respect and understand nature.” Georgescu, a licensed aesthetician, reflexologist and masseuse, spent her early career at well-known Manhattan salons including Frederic Fekkai.

Along with exclusive European skin-care lines like Swiss-made Methode Phytobiodermie and Eminence Organic, a handmade line from Hungary, Belmora uses Biopelle, pharmaceutical-grade products that contain amino acids and natural animal secretions, which the manufacturer claims slow the aging process. Belmora also offers its own label of exclusive, medical-grade salicylic and glycolic acid cleansers created through Georgescu’s partnership with Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, author of 6 Weeks to Sensational Skin.

Along with skin care, Georgescu and a staff massage therapist offer pampering treatments—from exotic massages to aroma-vitality body wraps and healing-stone foot therapy—to relax and revitalize.

“I love using my passion and knowledge to empower others by building their confidence,” Georgescu says.
