Bohemian Twist: How to Create a Messy Braid

Now that fabulous fall has arrived, freshen your wardrobe with the latest Bohemian styles from Anthropologie and Free People. Then all you'll need to carry off your casual boho look is a MESSY BRAID...

Don’t take fashion too seriously this autumn. For a fast and fun look, try a messy braid. It’s totally on trend and always chic whether you’re sporting jeans or a little dress. (And most guys think the "Heidi of the Mountains" look is super hot.)

I like a braid because I have naturally wavy hair and this come-what-may style is very forgiving. Even if little pieces of hair poke out of your braid, it’s just fine. And if you haven’t shampooed your tresses in a day or two, that’s even better because your hair will have a naturally boho texture. You can even gunk it up a little with some hairspray before you start braiding.

A hairstyle that doesn’t require a fresh shampoo? Ah, now I’ve captured your attention.
Here’s how to achieve this sweet, simple look…

1. Beginning on wavy hair, take a medium to large section (depending on how thick your hair is) close to your right ear.
2. Braid the section going from the front to the back.
3. Repeat on the opposite side.
4. Bring both braids to the back and secure them with an elastic.
5. Loosen and mess up both braids by pulling on them gently with your fingers.
6. Take one braid and wrap it up and around itself, creating a small braided bun. Secure with bobby pins.

Cute, huh? Now grab a cozy sweater, pull on your tights and boots and be on your merry, boho way. Fall is here and you don’t want to miss a minute of apple picking, leaf raking or hay-wagon riding!
