NJ Top Dentists 2009

Here are the Top Dentists in New Jersey as picked by their peers. The dentists are listed in nine specialties.

For this year’s list of Top Dentists, New Jersey Monthly commissioned an independent survey of the state’s dentists by the Polling Institute at Monmouth University in West Long Branch. A total of 6,389 New Jersey-based dentists were invited to give their recommendations for this year’s list.

Here’s how the survey was conducted. On January 2, a one-page questionnaire was mailed to all New Jersey-based dentists who have been licensed in the state for at least five years.  The mailing list, which is used by the Board of Dentistry for licensing purposes, was obtained from the New Jersey Department of Consumer Affairs.  Respondents could either return the original paper questionnaire or complete the questionnaire online.  Web survey participants were required to enter their last name and license number to avoid duplication.

In the end, 1,229 valid, non-duplicated responses were received (817 mail and 412 online) for a response rate of 19 percent.

The list represents the 240 Top Dentists out of more than 2,700 New Jersey dentists nominated by their peers in nine dental specialties.  In most cases, a minimum of fifteen votes was required to make the final list. The threshold was lower in certain specialties and regions of the state with fewer practitioners.
