Coriell Institute for Medical Research

New Jersey isn’t just densely packed with humans; it also holds the largest collection of human cells for research. The Coriell Institute in Camden distributes cells to scientists around the world and can be linked to breakthroughs in a range of diseases, such as breast cancer, leukemia, and cystic fibrosis. Founded in 1953 by Dr. Lewis L. Coriell (who helped the Salk polio vaccine reach the masses in the 1940s), this not-for-profit facility connects our state with just about every major research center on the planet.
