In a period of declining home prices, Raritan Township’s citizens can take comfort in New Jersey’s fastest-rising median home sales price in recent years. Mayor John King credits the increase to two factors. From a technical standpoint, a revaluation a few years back helped increase home prices.

More important, he says the town is family-oriented and has a “strong rural character.” The housing stock includes many newer homes, and most neighborhoods are more spread out than in the denser northern suburbs. “When people come here, they come to spread out,” King says. There’s no real downtown, but Flemington, which is encircled by the township, acts as the main street.

Like King, Kate Domoslawski, a sales associate for Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, links the real estate market here to “a new wave of buyers who simply want new and larger homes for their families,” as well as the town’s rural appeal. “Homeowners desire places like Raritan Township, where they can settle and live a healthy away-from-crowds life,” she says.
