Some days you just get lucky. Yesterday, when tickets for the Lil Wayne concert fell in my lap, was one of those days.

My sister and I have long been huge fans of Lil Wayne, a Grammy-nominated rapper from New Orleans. We are also big on his fellow rapper T-Pain, who was also on the bill last at the Prudential Center in Newark.

We were so excited about the tickets that we didn’t even realized we were in for the star treatment – at least not until we drove up to the Pru and showed our green parking ticket to a Newark police officer. “You girls are in VIP parking,” he said with a smile. We nonchalantly said thank you, but as we drove away, my sister was screaming. All I could do was laugh.

In the VIP parking garage we found a spot next to a bright purple Escalade. More laughter. We fixed our lip-gloss and were ready to go.

Entering the building we weren’t exactly treated as VIPs. Security emptied our pocketbooks and ran metal detectors around us. It was a minor setback. We flashed our special pink wristbands and were directed to the Goal Lounge, where we had the luxury of two private bars, a table of free food, and lots of first-class treatment.

After indulging in chicken fingers, cookies, and popcorn it was time to take our seats. Following the usher, our mouths began to drop. We were seated at a VIP table, directly in front of the center of the stage.

The next four hours were a blur. We danced, laughed, and completely enjoyed every performance. The bill also included Keri Hilson and Gym Class Heroes.

The concert ended with Lil Wayne rapping his #1 Hit “A Millie”, getting everyone in the audience on their feet. It was sad that our star-quality night had to end, but maybe I will get lucky again, sooner than later.
