Making a Racket in Warren

The top 10 professional racquetball players in the world will be among those competing this weekend at the New Jersey Open to win up to $20,000 in prize money.

The December 13-16 tournament marks the first time professional racquetball will be contested on New Jersey soil in more than 10 years. Hosted by the Racquet Club at Warren, the tournament will feature more than 100 competitors, including Kane Waselenchuk, the world racquetball champion for the past three years. Saturday evening before the finals, local female racquetball celebrity Aimee Ruiz will be the inaugural inductee into the NJ Racquetball Hall of Fame.

Sponsors and partners include Special Olympics NJ; the National MS Society; Green Sneakers, a charity that collects used sneakers and either recycles them or donates them to needy individuals; and Rollout, a sportswear company for racquetball athletes. Warren Mayor Carolann Garafola will be make the ceremonial coin toss for the Saturday night Men’s Pro Division finals.

The divisions range from novice, mens/womens singles, same gender and mixed doubles, junior and age groups ranging from 25+ to 60+.
