Food by the Cup

While I’ve tried working out and losing weight before, I’ve never had the discipline to count calories or time my workouts. Get Fit NJ is forcing me to do both.

We met with the nutritionist this week and he began establishing personal meal plans. Mine is limited to 1,200 calories a day – which is like, nothing. It’s not that I need to lose a whole mess of weight – maybe 15 pounds – but the metabolic trainer at Life Time Fitness has determined through a weird little breathing test that I have a ridiculously low resting metabolic rate. In other words, I don’t burn much in the way of calories. Therefore, I can’t consume much in the way of calories.

Now they want us to measure our food by the cupful. That’s pretty alien to me, but I’ll give it a shot. Anything for the team.

We spent about a half hour on the treadmills Wednesday night, at varying inclines and speeds. I haven’t broken much of a sweat yet. I shouldn’t say that – our trainer Shari will cook up some special torture just for me.
