Is it true what they say about “no pain, no gain”? If so, I gained plenty at our boot-camp session.
Shari, our trainer, was unrelenting. The Get Fit team spent about 20 minutes on the treadmill, then moved into one of the exercise studios at Life Time Fitness. That’s when the bloodletting began: non-stop squats, jumping jacks, push-ups, curls, more push-ups, more squats, one-handed push-ups, patty-cake push-ups.
I was on the verge of collapse by the time Shari lined us up for a relay race. Shades of third grade. Only that was about 50 years ago. By the end of my leg I was seeing stars. No problem, let’s just head back to the treadmills for another 10 minutes of cardio.
Pain? Yes. I told Shari my lower back couldn’t take all the pushups. “Always listen to your body,” she replied. Good advice. My body was asking for a hot shower and a comfortable bed.
Gain? According to my heart watch, I burned off 790 calories in the process. Not bad for an hour’s work.
