Natalie Monroe reminds us that Je's in Newark (34 William Street, 973-623-8848)  “can't be beat for true Southern comfort food.” She suggests the fried whiting, grits and eggs for breakfast; the smothered chicken, collard greens and macaroni and cheese for dinner. “For true southerners there are salmon cakes, oxtails and all other manner of low country delights,”  she says.

Chuck McEnroe had a whole list of suggestions for comfort food. He told us his “number one comfort food” is a pot pie from the Griggstown Quail Farm & Market in Griggstown. He adds, “I also like an occasional Italian hot dog from Casino Tony Goes” in Trenton. In Piscataway, Chuck says, “Comfort can also be found in an Indian buffet at Tawa.” And he is served “always great pizza” at Brother's Pizza (948 Alexander Road, Princeton Junction, 609-275-5575).

Alyssa Swingle put in a plug for Cask 591 in Long Branch. “My friends dined on Valentine's Day and loved it so much they returned the next night.”

Veronica Alcon chided us after our recent story about cupcake bakeries: “I'm surprised you missed The Petite Cafe in Nutley — home  of the stuffed cupcake!”  There’s plenty more on the menu at www.thepetitecafe.com. 

As for us, we recently had a terrific meal with friends at Ruga Restaurant, tucked away next to Route 287 in Oakland.
