Did you know there’s one drive-in movie theatre in New Jersey? It’s the Delsea Drive-in in Vineland. Sit back and enjoy brand new films in an old school way. The admission is even nostalgic — two movies for eight bucks.
All the movies are new releases. Just pick a screen and park your car right in front. If it’s a summer night, bring your favorite lawn chair and blanket to make this an outdoor experience. As the weather starts to get cooler, you can still relive the past in the comfort of your car. Just tune in your radio to hear the soundtrack of the feature film.
You can get dinner and a movie for the whole family at a reasonable price. Admission for children is $3, free for kids under two. The menu includes hamburgers and hot dogs plus of course the classic movie staple — popcorn. There’s also fried asparagus, and if you’re watching your figure you can order the tasty low-carb cucumber chicken salad.
Or, it you prefer to pack your own snacks, you can purchase a food permit for $7 per car for that night only.
On August 30, the Delsea is taking part in the 2008 Drive-in Film Festival. If you’re tired of the typical summer blockbusters, that weekend you will be able to watch independent films on the outdoor screens. The lineup includes Kabluey with Lisa Kudrow.
The first New Jersey drive-in opened in 1933 in Camden, and at the height of their popularity in the 1950s and 1960s there were more than 40 throughout the state.
Bring your family and friends out for a unique ‘dinner and a movie’ experience. Just remember your drive-in etiquette: SUVs park in the back and lights off during showtime!
