Oh my God! I’m a Blogger and a Wine Geek

Last year I walked away from a twenty-year career and a six-figure salary to work at my local wine shop. This being the 21st century, I’ve now been invited to share my passion for wine through this new blog.

My interest in wine began at an early age. I grew up in an Italian family. Wine was like a condiment, ever-present at the dinner table. Wrapped up in all things foreign and mysterious, wine was my connection to the ex-patriot I have always longed to be.

In the summer of 2007, I began my formal wine education at the International Wine Center in New York City. I now hold the Advanced Certificate in Wine and Spirits, an internationally recognized certification. This spring I will begin a three-year course of study for the Diploma, which is the traditional pre-requisite for Master of Wine candidates.

What began as a simple desire to get to know my way around a wine list suddenly became an obsession. Somewhere along the way, I realized that I was officially sliding into wine “geekdom.” At the end of a long workweek, I simply could not wait to get back to studying wine all weekend.

I quit my “regular” job and I have never looked back. I am a wine professional now; a concept that still amazes me. I have found my passion and I want to share it with those of you out there that care to listen (because my three teenage children sure as heck don’t).

Along the way and as my own knowledge grows, I hope to engage the expert and novice alike. In the words of Mary Ewing Mulligan, President of the IWC, much-lauded author, and the first woman in America to become a Master of Wine: “You never graduate from wine school.”

Master of Wine

Hi Sab,

I will let you know how the Diploma goes these next 3 years. It's not just research. It's tasting, tasting and more tasting. Sounds grueling, I know. But please don't feel sorry me!

Master of Wine

For the academic title alone I'd enter this field of research...
Wine as a condiment, too. Of course I am subscribed now.
