Do you like this story?

They're everywhere. Strange beings with serpent's heads, raising their steely necks above the rooftops of our cities and towns.

Run for your lives!

Just kidding.

A final image from our afternoon Friday with the Rutgers archivists, who are helping us research our July cover theme, THEN AND NOW.

This long-necked creature on the RU campus would have fit right in at Grover's Mill (about 15 miles down Route 1 from New Brunswick) on the night of October 30, 1938.

That, of course, was the night Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre scared the bejeezus out of people in Central Jersey and a lot of other places, and startled even themselves with the power of a new electronic medium.
