I park my car in the same Morristown municipal parking lot--10J--every day, and usually in the same spot.
But when I left work and arrived at my car at--just a sec, I'll look up the EXIF information--exactly 6:48:22 p.m., it didn't look the way it usually does.
Maybe it was the strong low sun.
Maybe it was that orange piece of plywood, which either had just been put up or I had never noticed before.
Whatever was different stopped me just as I was about to put my key in the door of my car.
I said to myself, 'Aah, it's just the parking lot, same ole, same ole.'
Then I thought, 'But it looks different. So you'll get home two minutes later. Pull out the camera and see if you can see what's going on.'
So I did, and at exactly 6:48:56--according to the exposuire info for the last picture--I put the camera back in its bag and got into my car.
Thirty four seconds had elapsed, in which I took eight pictures of the same thing, changing the zoom, taking a step this way or that.
This is the one that comes closest to what stopped me in the first place.
EXIF stands for Exchangeable Image File Format. Every digital picture in any digital camera is imbedded with a stack of info, like time and date, which are useful, and all kinds of data about the settings on the camera, which are usually....not so much.
