Summer: Half Over?

Tonight is baseball's All-Star Game, signalling the halfway point of the season. When you see store signs like this one, does it mean that summer is half over?

Yes, folks, that says SUMMER SALE. Taken yesterday, the 14th of July, on Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair.

Don't sales usually come at the end of a season?

It's hard enough to accept the end of summer on Labor Day, let alone the middle of July.
