Bench Warmed

Sleep on a park bench, even at high noon, and a cop is likely to tap you on the shoulder and tell you to move on.

Do the same thing on the boardwalk and you are left to your sweet dreams...

I suppose it helps it you aren't pushing a laundry cart full of all your belongings, with stuffed plastic bags hanging off the side.

But sleeping on the beach or within earshot of the surf is recognized as such a fundamental human pleasure, such a ritual of Jersey summers, that not even a curmudgeon would begrudge you taking up the entire bench.

Whether you stretch out and snooze, or sit and lick an ice cream cone and idly watch the waves roll in, or listen to a ballgame on the radio, or slip your arm around your girlfriend, or wistfully strum your guitar in hopes of attracting the opposite sex...

the boardwalk bench is the Swiss Army Knife of relaxation, despite having no moving parts.
