Do you like this story?

I drove by the body shop to see about getting my 20-year-old BMW repainted, but they were closed. No problem, I had my 40D with me...

This is the office window of Ferrara's Auto Body in Montclair. When I came back a day later and Matty Ferrara gave me his estimate ("we don't do paint jobs, we do complete finish restorations"), I chuckled all the way back to my car. Silly me.

Estimate: $7,500.

Book value of 1989 BMW 735i with 5-speed manual transmission: maybe $1,000.

Sentimental and, more important, practical value of said vehicle: Priceless.
