Basie's New Beat

Do you like this story?

I recently saw my first concert at the renovated Count Basie Theater in Red Bank. The place was beautifully restored, and from the stage attention was directed to the magnificent domed ceiling, sky blue with puffy clouds. The concert was a benefit for the theater, and the group--my favorite band--was the Fab Faux, the great Beatles tribute fivesome (plus horns and strings).

With this concert, the eighth the Fab Faux have done, the amount the group has raised for the theater reached $1 million.

The band was presented a plaque in gratitude for their help. It will be mounted backstage, where all future performers and crew will see it, and it concludes with the apt Beatles lyric, "The love you take is equal to the love you make."

I didn't have my regular camera with me, so I snapped these with my trusty (if low-light challenged) iPhone.

The concert, by the way, was superb. To paraphrase another Beatles lyrics, "a splendid time was guaranteed for all."
