Do you like this story?

Set up on the Asbury Park boardwalk opposite the Stony Pony, this young drummer was playing some fascinating rhythm, not just the usual thudding. Turns out he is a 2010 graduate of Neptune High School, a member of the National Honor Society, and a drum instructor at Big Beat studio in Neptune City...

His name: Dean Martin Pyzik, age 19 (in October)

Boy could he play.

Not impressed

Anybody can play a beat on that drum set. It is as basic as you can get. Come play on my Pearl Export Series with Icon Rack, power shifter eliminator high hat stand, Zildjian cymbals, Throne, Mapex double kick pedal and floating snare.

Thanks man!! ; )

Yes, anyone may be able to play a beat on my rinky dink set but, can YOU entertain people on that set? Can you make due with what is put in front of you? If someone confronted you with the situation of playing on the most basic setup, would you be able to STEP UP and perform on that set in front of 1000’s of people? Or do you need to have all of the fancy additives to be called a drummer? If you can’t do just as well on a small set then why bother even having a bigger set? I have a real drum set as well. Gretsch catalina custom series, ALL PDP and DW hardware, DW 8000 double pedal, 16" 18" 19" A custom projection crashes, twin 20" A custom projection rides, twin 18" A custom projection chinas (inverted) a 12" pork pie side snare 13" Gretsch picolo side snare and 14" Pearl Chad Smith signature snare(main) with custon nickel plated die cast hoops made by ocpd. I also have 10" and 12" roto toms (orginal remo make not new redesigned series), I also have a pork pie zebra print throne with matching stick bag...duh!! I use EC2 clear-coated heads on my 14" mounted tom and 16" and 18" floor toms for that EARTHY rumble. I use Remo ambassadors on the bottoms of my toms. I use aquarian Super Kick II’s on front and back of my 22x18" bass drum. and on the front head i have a 9 1/2" port hole directly in the center. It’s so loud that when I play a double bass groove, people’s pants legs shake because there’s so much vibration. I use many different types of sticks ranging from Vater 3A’s to Regal Tip 5A’s. And rack systems are for people who either don’t have roadies or are too lazy to carry their own gear i.e. cymbal stands ooooor that just means that their set doesn’t move alot because they don’t play gigs because theyre not a real drummer, they just call themselves one. REAL drummers don’t knock on eachother to say who is BETTER or to make assumptions on ones ability to play. we should learn more and as much as we can from each other to gain more knowledge and beats DUH!!!! Oh and I paid for all of my own gear by teaching lessons and working hard to earn my money and gear. I didn’t just go out and buy expensive gear as it seems you did. have a nice day and thanks again!!
