The Hippest Diner

I have to admit, it's not in New Jersey. It's in Brooklyn...

My son turned me on to it. It's called Diner and it's near the Williamsburg bridge. Has the look of an old railroad car diner, though it also has a second dining room. Funky and rundown in the most aesthetically pleasing way.

The food is delicious, hipper than anything you'll find in most diners, Jersey or elsewhere.

The help are right out of central NY casting. They all look like they're ready for indie films and HBO series. But, then, so do the customers. And they are all young. Handsome, hip, bearded guys in artfully disheveled clothing; beautiful, hip, striking women in understated but flattering clothes.

Have to say, it was all pretty damn cool.

We have our work cut out for us. A place like this can't just be designed and installed. It has to grow out of a like-minded community of a certain density. That's where Brooklyn has it over us. Though a hip, suburban version of Diner like Raymond's in Montclair comes close.
