Don’t Chuck It, Re-Store It

My mother is in the middle of a home renovation. But instead of chucking the old stuff, we loaded up her truck and headed to the Re-Store in Pennsauken.

The Re-Store is a retail spot run by Habitat for Humanity. All of the items inside are donated, and the Re-Store re-sells them with the money going toward Habitat projects.

Most of the stuff is used, like what my mom donated. But some is supplied by builders. I saw still-in-the box Bosch microwaves and stove hoods for half off retail price. They were also selling un-used tiles, paint, doors, lamps, faucets, picture hangers, wallpaper— even bathroom sinks. On Saturday, the Re-Store also had about a dozen matching TV cabinets—we’re guessing they were donated by a hotel.

Pennsauken is not the only NJ Re-Store spot. Habitat runs similar stores in Asbury Park, Branchville, Cinnaminson, Freehold, Mine Hill, Toms River, and West Creek. For a complete list, and hours, click here.
