Hungry for Poetry? Here’s a Satisfying Event!

Bring your love of poetry and a healthy appetite to Newark this weekend. First, experience some of today's finest poets as they recite and discuss their work. Then stop by NICO Kitchen + Bar at NJPAC and sample tasty recipes made with fresh ingredients!

Have you heard about the Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival, the largest poetry event in North America? It’s in Newark until Sunday, October 14 and this stylish event is expected to transform New Jersey’s largest city into a cool “poetry village.”

Highlights include:

• Poets on Poetry: Festival poets read and discuss poems and poets that matter to them.
• Conversations: Intimate groups of festival poets discuss enduring themes evoked by poetry.
• Evening Main Stage Readings: Some of the most celebrated and accessible poets of today share their love of the written word.

After the festival, check out NICO Kitchen + Bar, the "Italian Without Borders" restaurant at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. They’re offering a special three-course, $42 prix-fixe "Eating Poetry" dinner menu from 5 -10 p.m. Friday, and 5 – 9 p.m. Saturday. My mouth is watering already:

The cleverly themed dinner menu includes:
WALT WHITMAN’s "Leaves of Grass"- Romaine Wedge, Prosciutto di Parma, Ricotta Salata, Caesar Dressing
BILLY COLLINS’ "The Fish" – Pan-Roasted Cod, Artichoke Barigoule, Crispy Brussels Sprouts
WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS’ "The Red Wheelbarrow"- Half-Roasted Free-Range Chicken, Lavender Honey, Grilled Fennel
ROBERT FROST’s "Blueberries"- Blueberry Tres Leches Cheesecake, Blueberry Bourbon Sauce
DAVID LEE GARRISON’s "Recipe for an Apple Pie" – Apple Crumb Pie, Vanilla Gelato

Enjoy your day in Newark!
