Life Imitates Art in Montclair

Art dealer Kathy Imlay’s latest company, Vessel of Things Less Ordinary (VōTLO), boldly takes works of art off the walls and infuses them into your wardrobe.

Based out of Montclair, VōTLO Couture sets its sights on merging the fashion industry with art through its uniquely inspired brand. Partnering with a short list of acclaimed artists, the new line of silk scarves, wraps and garments is driven by high style and quality craftsmanship. The collections, like the fine art at its source, are meant to be enjoyed over a lifetime and passed through generations.

“It’s always been my dream to create a business that makes art more accessible while also using it as a tool for healing and inspiration. What women wear speaks volumes, and our clothing collection turns up the volume on some of the issues that women and girls face around the globe,” Kathy says. "VōTLO Couture celebrates all women as extraordinary vessels who carry the power to transform themselves, their communities and the planet. Each garment tells a story that informs and inspires."

The inaugural artworks being showcased by VōTLO Couture are by renowned American artist Janet Taylor Pickett. Janet’s paintings celebrate the beauty of women as vessels of creation and she has spent her career painting the dress as a metaphor. Her artworks are narratives on women’s work, worth and their relationships.

The first opportunity to purchase from VōTLO Couture is through its Kickstarter campaign that just launched on October 21. “To manufacture VōTLO Couture’s first line in full scale, we need to raise more money," Kathy says. "Our Kickstarter campaign is a great resource to have creative projects funded by offering rewards in exchange for support. Any online user can go to the Kickstarter website to participate and support our vision in a meaningful way before the brand hits stores.”

The goal is to raise at least $30,000 in 30 days. In exchange for support, VōTLO Couture rewards patrons with designated merchandise at a 30% discount off the future retail price. To support VōTLO Couture’s effort and become among the first to step into one of Kathy Imlay’s work of art, visit the Kickstarter site.
