Ken Downing’s Top Trends for Autumn

One of the best parts of my job as New Jersey Monthly's style editor is interviewing tastemakers. And one of the most intriguing tastemakers is Ken Downing, global fashion director for Neiman Marcus.

I actually met Ken at Neiman Marcus in Short Hills, at the Rachel Zoe fall fashion event. They tag-teamed the runway presentation, so the audience was treated to a double scoop of smart and sassy commentary.

After the show, Ken was kind enough to sit down with me on a cozy couch in the store manager’s office, and we chatted about autumn style trends, what’s in Ken’s own closet and his propensity to buy contemporary furniture and art.

Ken says he’s especially attracted to groovy furniture from the ’60s and ’70s. "My mother says I walk a fine line between collector and hoarder. In fact, my garage auditioned for an episode of Hoarders." Haha. That really made me laugh.

Be sure to read the entire interview. And don’t miss Ken’s fall trend list!

Can’t wait to post this style czar’s top picks for Spring 2013…whenever he’s ready to share with me. Gotta love all things Ken.
