Carol MacArthur, long-time owner of Encore Quality Consignments in Bernardsville, one of my all-time fave haunts, just told me that she is moving EVERYTHING out. You heard it here first, so grab your car keys and follow me...

Everything must go. Encore in Bernardsville is closing its doors after all these years.
The End of an Era?
Local shoppers are wondering if Carol MacArthur will reopen in another location.

If you like to rummage through consignment shops for women's, men's and kids' clothing, jewelry, furniture or antique home accessories, this is good news. And bad news.

The good news is that Carol has already started slashing prices at Encore (908-766-7760). The bad news is that she plans to close the doors of her Bernardsville shop, a long-time standby for local buyers and browsers, in just a few weeks. The entrepreneurial Ms. MacArthur is deciding what she wants to do next. I hope she'll set up shop in a new location, but she's considering all the possibilities.

Once I hear the scoop, I will report back.

Until then, shop at Encore 'til you drop. And if you want to make an event of it, have a meal at the Claremont Tavern, right next door. I was there for lunch two weeks ago, and the new menu is really inventive and wonderful. Then head downtown, just a few blocks away, and check out the Organic Nest, Studio 7 Art Gallery, Laura Clare Floral Design, and all of the other fun, chic Bernardsville shops.
