How to Create a Beautiful Room: Interior Designer Janet Simon Shares Tips

If you're looking to create an inviting new space...or freshen up an existing room...come hear Janet Simon's informative and entertaining lecture on April 18 at the Morris Museum.

I first met the Morristown-based interior designer several years ago when I had the pleasure of interviewing her inside the elegant Simon residence in New Vernon. We featured Janet’s entertaining flair in a home-and-garden article, accompanied by gorgeous images of her pretty patio, whimsical tablescape and gorgeous peony beds.

Then, in 2010, I really loved her sublime breakfast room, a hexagonal space in a palette of baby blue and white, highlighted at Fawn Hill Farm in Morristown as part of Mansion in May, Morristown Memorial Hospital’s Designer Show House.

Janet likes to create inviting and timeless interiors that reflect each client’s personality. Signature trims, lush draperies, textured wall finishes and custom lighting and furniture are some of her design hallmarks. Ultimately, it’s all about warm hospitality and livability, she says. Check out more images of Janet’s designs, as well as her fun blog.

For tickets to Janet’s "How to Create a Beautiful Room" lecture on Thursday morning, April 18, at the Morris Museum, call 973-971-3706. Registration is required by April 17. The lecture will focus on the keys to good design, i.e., placement, color, accessories and more. Tickets are $30 for museum members and $35 for non-members. Ticket price includes admission to the museum exhibits. Light refreshments will be provided by the Artist Baker of Morristown.

The interior design lecture is part of the museum’s year-long centennial celebration, which will be punctuated by a September 21 black-tie gala. Coincidentally, the community-minded Mrs. Simon is a committee member for that grand event.
