CHEF HUMBERTO CAMPOS JR. AT KINGS, SHORT HILLS
On September 13, chef/owner Humberto Campos Jr. from Lorena’s, 168 Maplewood Avenue, Maplewood, will teach a cooking class at Kings Cooking Studio, 778 Morris Turnpike, Short Hills. The following menu will be demonstrated: organic sweet pea soup with bacon, pearl onions, and brioche crouton; warm crêpe of lump crab with mushrooms, fresh herb emulsion, and white truffle oil; Scottish salmon tartare with sake, wasabi tobiko, crème fraîche, and fried wonton; and coffee panna cotta with caramelized banana. 6:30 to 9:30 PM; $60. AMANTI VINO, MONTCLAIR

The next Wine and Spirit Education Trust class will be held at Amanti Vino, 30 Church Street, Montclair, on September 15 and 22 from 6:30 to 9 PM; $285. This entry-level foundation course geared for consumers and those new to wine focuses on the main styles of wine, tasting technique, wine and food pairings, and wine etiquette. There will be a multiple-choice exam administered on the 22nd, and all passing students will receive a certificate and lapel pin. SUMMIT WINE AND FOOD FESTIVAL
Tickets are now on sale for the Summit Wine and Food Festival, which will be held September 9 through 11 at the Grand Summit Hotel, 570 Springfield Avenue, Summit. Events include a gala tasting on Friday evening; wine tastings, cooking demonstrations, a book signing, a gala dinner ($250), and much more on Saturday; and a Caja Cookout Competition ($75) on Sunday. Some of the chefs scheduled to appear are Dennis Foy, James Laird, David Drake, Maricel Presilla, The Next Iron Chef runner-up Jehangir Mehta, Pichet Ong, Sue Torres, and Douglas Rodriguez. On October 3, a Louisiana Style dinner will be presented at the James Beard House, 167 West 12th Street, New York City, by chef Andrew Araneo, owner of Drew’s Bayshore Bistro in Keyport. On November 7, the Twelfth Annual Youth Consultation Service Festival of Flavors will be held at the Park Ridge Marriott, 300 Brae Boulevard, Park Ridge, to benefit YCS, a private, nonprofit social services agency for children and families in crisis, affected by trauma, or challenged by intellectual/developmental disabilities.
