OPENINGS

Blue Plate Special, a casual cafe, has opened at 325 Irvington Ave, South Orange (973-763-9619); BYO. Cash only.

Bushido, a Japanese restaurant, has opened at 671 Palisades Ave, Cliffside Park (201-941-6600).

Franklin Steak House, 318 Passaic Ave, Fairfield (973-808-9400).

Mondo Eatery by Gencarelli’s Cucina has replaced Gencarelli’s at 381 Bloomfield Ave, Montclair (973-744-8881); BYO. The restaurant, named for the Italian word for “world,” will combine dishes from the previous menu, such as Mrs. G’s Sunday Gravy, along with creative cuisine from the Mediterranean and regional American fare, including fresh house-made pastas, soups, and seafood and meat dishes.

Pastaio, featuring fresh pasta made daily, has opened at 1311 3rd Ave, Spring Lake (732-359-8177); BYO.

The Salad House by Cioffi’s, 343 Millburn Ave, Millburn (973-376-4001), has opened, offering create-your-own salads, wraps, and flatbread pizzas, plus sandwiches, smoothies, soups, and small plates. There is also a children’s menu.

Salt Ayre Bistro, an American-style casual BYO, has opened at 7309 Ventnor Ave, Ventnor (609-428-6952), featuring seafood, steaks, roasted chicken, house-made pastas, and fresh oysters.
