OUR SATURDAY NIGHT DINNER AT CANAL HOUSE, LAMBERTVILLE
Christopher Hirsheimer (photographer) and Melissa Hamilton (food stylist) have a studio in Lambertville by the D&R canal, where they design, write, and photograph foods and cookbooks. Their series of Canal House Cooks, which is published three times a year, has scrumptious seasonal recipes and mouth-watering pictures. Another book, Canal House Cooks Every Day, was the 2013 James Beard Foundation Award winner for General Cooking and is based on Hirsheimer and Hamilton’s daily lunch blog, which you can subscribe to at their website.
When we recently learned that Christopher and Melissa were cooking a series of Saturday night dinners at their studio, we immediately signed up to attend. Although these dinners have been put on hold for the spring and summer, keep checking the web page as they may resume in the fall. We prepaid $90 per person, which includes tax and tip and a welcoming glass of bubbly. Dinner was served at a communal table for twenty and we had a most delicious evening. The following menu was served:
Deviled eggs topped with smoked salmon
Pasta primavera with fava, asparagus, peas & guanciale
Jamison lamb shanks with parsley new potatoes
John and Sukey Jamison, owners of Jamison Farm in Pennsylvannia, were in attendance. Their lambs are fed a 100% natural diet, free of hormones, antibiotics, herbicides and insecticides and are used by some of the finest chefs and restaurants in the world including Daniel, Cafe Boulud and Picholine in NYC. Their products can be ordered at their website.
