MIAMARE RISTORANTE
MiaMare Ristorante
offering Italian cuisine in a family-friendly atmosphere has opened at 18 Tanner St, Haddonfield (856-433-8765). MiaMare means "my sea" or "my ocean" and one of the restaurant’s specialties is whole fish, oven baked and fileted tableside. They also offer a variety of fresh, made-to-order chicken or veal cutlets, and old-world Italian braised meats such as osso bucco. A chef tasting menu is available for parties of four or more, and includes a variety of appetizers, including a salad, an intermezzo of pasta, individual entrees to choose from and dessert with coffee; BYO. Proprietors previously owned Gnocchi in Philadelphia.

The Ale House, an Irish bar, has opened at 1034 Willow Ave, Hoboken, (201-798-5650).

Black Rail Coffee, conveniently located near the NJ Transit Light Rail at 800 Jackson St in Hoboken, serves coffee, pastries and pressed sandwiches (201-222-4700).

Boardwalk Burgers and Fries, a family-friendly chain restaurant, which started in 1981 and serves fresh, never-frozen ground beef and hand-cut fries, has opened at 832 Washington St, Hoboken (201-683-0313).

The Boston Ice Cream Company, featuring Emack & Bolio’s ice cream, has opened at a new location at 348 Millburn Ave, Millburn (973-994-3622). It was previously located in Livingston.

Charcuterie, onion soup, steak frites and duck are some of the French dishes at Brasserie de Paris, 700 1st St, Hoboken (917-415-9066).

Organic, affordable, and fresh foods are featured at the newly opened Food Evolution, 14A Chestnut Ridge Road, Montvale (201-573-0101). Some menu items are turkey, beef or bison burgers; sandwiches; salads; omelets and bowls served with brown rice, millet or a tri-colored quinoa blend and a protein. The restaurant is open daily.

With over 35 cupcakes to choose from, the House of Cupcakes has opened at 259 Allwood Road, Clifton (862-225-9536). The franchise has locations in East Brunswick and Princeton (temporarily closed due to fire).

Kocher’s Market, a German butcher shop, deli and market has opened at 1400 Anderson Ave in Fort Lee (201-944-7086). The grocer sells free-range, grain-fed meats without hormones or antibiotics and all deli meats and wurst are made by continental specialty meats. Seating is available and daily specials are posted on their Facebook page.

Matisse in Belmar has reopened at 1000 Main St, Belmar (732-681-7680); BYO. The previous location on the boardwalk was completely destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.

Salt Ayre Bistro, 7309 Ventnor Ave, Ventnor (609-428-6952) has opened for the season, which runs through October.

Surf City, 1 Marin Boulevard, Jersey City, a megabar and restaurant located on the water with views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty, has re-opened for the season. It is open Thursday through Sunday and, starting June 1st, it will be open daily. There are communal tables with seating for more than 400 people and the menu features burgers, ribs, seafood, and salads. A children’s menu is available and small leashed dogs (under 20 lbs) are permitted in the outdoor area.

Seas and Savannahs International Kitchen has opened at 299 Queen Anne Road, Teaneck (201-530-7338). Offering food from Kenya, this restaurant has a weekday lunch buffet as well as a Gospel Sunday brunch buffet. Dinner items include: Zanzibar beef katles (spice beef and potato patty), curried samosa, Kilimanjaro coconut chicken, stewed beef; Mwanza tilapia fillet and vine ripened tomato sauce; and Zanzibar shrimp in coconut curry.

U Pie Company, a Mediterranean-style pizzeria, has moved to a new location in Englewood at 3 East Palisade Ave. (201-567-1888); BYO.

Generations-old ethnic Uzbek food and Indian Uzbek fusion cuisine is served at Uzbekistana Mediterranean Cuisine, 622-624 Main St, Boonton (973-263-0495); BYO.

CLOSINGS

Bibby’s Mediterranean Café, Fort Lee. A lunch, take-out and catering establishment is expected to go into this space.

Sebastian’s Steak House, 80 Elm St, Morristown has closed. Word on the street that it will become a high-end wine store.

For those of you craving a White Castle in Hackettstown, you will have to look elsewhere as the eatery has closed.
