OPENINGS
THE DIVING HORSE, AVALON, REOPENS FOR THE SEASON WITH NEW EXECUTIVE CHEF

The Diving Horse, 2109 Dune Drive, Avalon, (BYO) has reopened for the season with Palmer Marinelli as the new executive chef. Marinelli has cooked at this seafood-focused restaurant for the past four years, most recently as chef de cuisine. Dinner is served nightly beginning at 5 PM. The menu items, ranging in price from $8 to $36, change almost daily, and may include: The Diving Horse wedge salad, with jumbo lump crabmeat, prosciutto, red onion, tomato and fried herbs served with a Seven-Mile Island dressing; mussels and clams, with coconut, beach herbs and rice crackers; Barnegat Light Bay scallops with Oak Grove toasted farro, English peas, wild nettle and rhubarb; Hudson Canyon swordfish with sautéed greens, red lentils, oyster sauce served in a lemongrass and ginger broth; braised short rib served over Parisian gnocchi and spring vegetables; and Lancaster chicken breast, with asparagus, roasted potato, hay jus and summer truffle.

The Diving Horse has an enclosed outdoor patio surrounded by tall landscaping. Three large picnic tables are used for communal seating and a private eight-seat round table is often used to host chef’s tasting dinners. The interior has oversized windows and a modern, farmhouse ambiance created with reclaimed fixtures. The restaurant will remain open through Labor Day. Reservations: 609-368-5000.

OTHER OPENINGS

Crepe Guru, an American-French fast food restaurant that features held crepes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, has opened at 315 Washington St, Hoboken (201-795-4878).

Federici’s on 10th has opened at 705 10th Ave, Belmar, offering pizza and a traditional Italian menu (732-681-3337). This is the fourth restaurant owned by the Federici family, who opened their first establishment in Freehold in 1932.

Last Licks, which was previously Applegate Farms, has opened at 134 Ridgedale Ave, East Hanover featuring ice cream and Italian ices (973-884-0222).

Livoti’s Old World Market in Aberdeen has opened a new location at Marlboro Shopping Plaza, 160 Rt 9 N, Englishtown. The market sells specialty foods, fresh fruits, gourmet items to go, deli, custom cuts of meat, fresh fish, Italian breads, pastries and much more.

Grilled cheese, sandwiches, salads, soups and varieties of mac & cheese are a few of the menu items at Mac Attack Gourmet Cheesery, 20 Broad St, Red Bank (732-741-6700). The grilled cheese and mac-n-cheese items are also available gluten and lactose free. Open daily Monday through Thursday for lunch and dinner; Friday for lunch; Saturday for breakfast and lunch; and Sunday for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is also a location in Montclair which opened in November 2013.

Noodle dishes from around the world, salads and sandwiches are featured at the newly opened at Noodles & Company, a casual chain restaurant, located at 16-31 Rt 208 and Promenade Boulevard, Fair Lawn (201-797-2802).

Par Restaurant has opened at 83 DeWolf Road, Old Tappan (201-660-7587). The restaurant, which overlooks the Old Tappan Golf Course, serves breakfast lunch and dinner from Tuesday through Sunday.

The Poached Pear, a contemporary American Bistro, has opened at 816 Arnold Ave, Point Pleasant Beach (732-701-1700). Executive chef/owner is Scott Giordano formally sous chef at the Saddle River Inn and executive chef at Whispers.

Riva Blue, a restaurant, lounge and catering facility offering Italian and New American cuisine, has opened at 525 Riverside Ave, Lyndhurst (201-896-2222). Lunch is offered Tuesday through Saturday; and dinner Tuesday through Sunday.

Whole Foods has opened at 113 Rt 9 South, Marlboro (732-792-5900).
